Ghana’s government, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has set a goal for renewable energy to account for 10% of national power generation by 2030, and 50% by 2060.
During World Energy Week 2025, Technical Advisor Dr Yussif Sulemana stated that the plan forms part of a broader energy-transition strategy aimed at moving away from heavy reliance on hydrocarbons. Key enablers include investment in solar, hydrogen, and carbon-capture technologies.
While the country currently relies largely on oil and gas, the ministry emphasises that natural gas will continue to act as a transition fuel as clean-energy capacity is scaled up.
