AECI Mining Explosives Launches Employee Assistance Programme to Boost Mental Well-being and Workplace Safety

In a significant move towards enhancing workforce wellbeing and safety, AECI Mining Explosives West Africa has launched a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) in Ghana.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with Supreme Healthcare Management Services, brings professional and confidential psychological support to employees and their families, recognising that mental health is integral to both personal welfare and operational safety.

The EAP covers a wide range of supports, including counselling for stress, trauma, financial issues, and family challenges; critical-incident and trauma response services; monthly wellness workshops; webinars; and printed newsletters. One of the programme’s key features is strict confidentiality—the company emphasises that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As Patience Osekre of Supreme Healthcare put it: “While helmets, boots and harnesses protect the body, the EAP protects the mind.”

Hannah Heloo, Human Capital Manager at AECI, said the programme is aligned with the company’s vision of treating employees as its greatest asset:

“We cannot separate the personal from the professional. People don’t leave their stress behind when they report to work.”

This launch comes amid growing recognition within the mining sector that workplace mental wellness directly affects safety performance, incident rates, and productivity—especially in high-risk and remote operations.

By embedding mental-health support into its business model, AECI is setting a new standard for holistic employee care in Ghana’s mining and industrial sector.
