ADI Urges Stronger Ghana-Germany-KfW Partnership to Power 24-Hour Economy via Agriculture and Renewables

The Alliance for Development and Industrialisation (ADI) has called on the Government of Ghana to strengthen its partnership with Germany and the KfW Development Bank to drive the country’s 24-Hour Economy initiative through agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy.

According to ADI, Ghana’s push toward a 24-Hour Economy can only succeed if supported by reliable, low-cost renewable energy—such as solar power, biofuels, and mini-grids—and robust agro-industrial value chains.

Dr. Richard Mensah, Convenor of ADI, highlighted Germany and KfW’s long-standing role in Ghana’s development journey, including support for modernising agriculture, strengthening technical and vocational training, and helping establish key institutions like the Development Bank Ghana and the Outgrower and Value Chain Fund (OVCF).

As part of the proposed partnership expansion, ADI suggests scaling up the OVCF programme to target high-potential commodities such as palm, coconut, citrus, and tropical fruits. The organisation also recommends integrated use of by-products and waste for organic fertilizer, animal feed, and bioenergy production.

To support round-the-clock industrial production, ADI is calling for agro-processing parks powered by renewable energy, cold-chain systems for perishable goods, and improved infrastructure to connect products to export markets. It believes these measures can help Ghana transition from exporting raw commodities to adding value locally—while enhancing competitiveness and ensuring environmental sustainability.
